A renovation of a building in Vietnam includes on the top floor a stunning café, Nocenco cafe. The design entirely in bamboo transforms the building into an architectural icon.

The building housing the restaurant in the city center

Hosting the Nocenco cafe project is a medium-height building that has undergone a substantial renovation. The concrete structure is located in the heart of Vinh city, in the northern center of Vietnam. The top floor offers a splendid view of low-rise houses and magnificent landscapes, and Vo Trong Nghia Architects designs the restaurant café here, destined to become famous for its iconic bamboo design.

The singular bamboo covering

The existing building envelope is not touched, the addition takes place on the roof. The material chosen for Nocenco cafe is bamboo as in several architecture projects by the studio, easily accessible in tropical climate zones. A material that reduces construction times and budget as well as being extremely lightweight and easily transportable.

Iconic local landmark

The architectural space resembles that of a cave or hut. The surrounding panorama cannot be seen in its entirety, but from certain points of the structure, a different view of the city can be enjoyed. The huge dome structure on the roof is recognizable from any point in the city, a true gathering space for the city's inhabitants.
