Cultural center in Mexico

The cultural center where the architectural identity of Oaxaca comes back to life.

The architectural firm Fr-EE in the Mexican capital of Oaxaca, designs a cultural center where domes and continuous vaults are used to celebrate a place of gathering and recreation, as well as to enhance the cultural identity of the State

The architectural tradition comes alive

Domes, continuous vaults, and courtyards are traditionally used in the historical architecture of Oaxaca and are part of the state's and its cities' identity.
While originally used exclusively for religious buildings, in the project for the new cultural center designed by the architecture projects studio Fr-EEthey come into play as exemplary elements to celebrate the cultural identity of the State.

Architectural elements functional to the intended use

The vaults respond to a functionality criterion: they allow for a variation in height to contain different environments with different intended uses. Vaults of smaller proportions are intended to contain museum areas, where space expands in width, facilitating the flexibility of various exhibitions and displays.
The ensemble forms a bold and functional architectural rhythm.

Continuity and fluidity of the architectural project

In the facade, the key points are the hypnotic lines, the continuity and fluidity, the use of materials that create a bridge between past and future. For the garden, native plants are proposed, suitable for the climatic conditions of the environment, in harmony with the architectural project.
