The company Waldfabrik, known for its timeless handmade wooden decorations and based in Freudenstadt, has commissioned the Baumraum studio to create an oval-shaped extension. This space is intended to become a new meeting and relaxation area, highlighting the importance of sustainable architecture.
The design requested by the client to Baumraum studio included an external round room supported by columns and connected to the main building through a bridge. The innovative use of spiral-shaped wood shavings, along with the bridge, balustrades, and painted steel support structures, introduces a fusion between innovation and tradition.
Wood, the central element of the project, is used for the rounded structure, the internal cladding, and the inclined supports. Special attention has been paid to the selection of materials, such as larch and chestnut for the subfloor, treated with a Japanese technique of controlled burning for a blackish-silvery finish and increased durability.
The interiors have been designed with furniture and furnishings produced directly by Waldfabrik, reflecting the company's commitment to custom interior design and quality craftsmanship.
The exterior of the extension has been carefully crafted down to the smallest details, with the addition of new plantings, majestic pine trees, and a rocky garden located beneath the structure on stilts. This approach demonstrates the attention to detail of Waldfabrik and studio Baumraum in creating spaces that harmoniously integrate with the surrounding natural environment.
