Innovative Public Space. The use of the color Red to attract and engage

The Chinese "Red Planet", in the city of Shanghai, is designed by the studio 100 architects to encourage interactions and the stopover of adults and children in a commercial street space previously intended only for circulation

The Red Planet is a public space project within a commercial street, designed to enhance the experience of customers of the mixed-use shopping center. An area originally designated solely for circulation is transformed into a place to stop and spend time with one's family

The primary intention was to break the rules and design something unusual, capable of stimulating the imagination and creativity, especially of children, by immersing them in a colorful reality

The space features an unconventional basketball court. The artificial topography allows children to lie down, slide, climb, in other words, to be free to use the space as they wish. A folded basketball hoop with LED lights serves as the area's illumination

Other spaces, such as a running track, or objects, obstacles, platforms, and benches, characterize the area. The space is monochromatic, in red, and the same color has been applied to the existing urban furniture, creating a more engaging experience
