The original building was built on a square, 60'x60' site. Scaffold House originally contained a three-bedroom apartment on the second floor and two rental units on the ground floor. The layout of the house is challenged when the owners' son moves to Bangalore
A steel scaffolding is a major factor in the new Scaffold House scene

The idea for Scaffold House comes from a pragmatic approach by Gaurav Roy Choudhury Architects GRCA, clarifying the difference of the "new" in the context of the "old." A 20'x20' square becomes the core of the building, a catalytic space for the entire renovation process
A 2'x2' light steel scaffold is erected in this central space, which became the place where the language of the new dialogues with the old. This structure also served as a bond for the existing structure, keeping it stable and in place
A light translucent sheet over the central core allows intense sunlight into both houses, allowing cross ventilation for the peripheral spaces. Shadows from the steel scaffolding animate the houses throughout the day, as the light and seasons change
