The masterplan for the renovation of the New York Public Library, scheduled for completion in 2020, was developed by a Dutch studio, Mecanooarchitecten and includes the renovation of existing spaces and the addition of new ones
The library has always been a point of reference in terms of information, so there is a responsibility to preserve this wonderful architectural work and its role as a civic space, preparing it for the future and for another century, improving the various services for the public
The interventions include: transformation of storage spaces into public spaces for exhibitions and educational programs, transformation of historical spaces into research spaces, addition of an entrance on 40th Street, new bathrooms, improved and modernized accommodation spaces, including a cafeteria and a shop that will be expanded, a new centre for research and learning and, finally, a permanent exhibition space
