The challenge of the project was to create an open-plan workspace that retained the feeling of the original space and maximized the existing character of the building. Exposed brick walls and fir beams were used to achieve this

Substantial's new workspace is located in a 100-year-old building, and architectural studio goCstudio was brought in to redesign an entire floor that would be able to adapt and meet the company's growing needs

In order to plan the project, a fulcrum is identified as a meeting place for both social and business activities. Architecturally this fulcrum becomes an open space under a new large skylight full of natural light

Surrounding the fulcrum is a strong textural palette of ebony-stained plywood that primarily characterizes the new additions. Two existing conferring rooms were retained and covered with the same materials to link them to the new design
