Lacanau Bench, the prototype of sustainable modular urban furniture

Lacanau Océan in France, in the context of the redevelopment of its charming seafront, is undergoing a revolutionary transformation. As part of this large-scale project, Lacanau Bench is being introduced, the creation of a range of modular urban furniture designed by Bruit du frigo, which adapts to every situation and use.

Modular urban furniture for every need

The new furnishings of this "balcony overlooking the sea" are composed of versatile modules that can be arranged and adapted according to the visitors' needs. Three main types have been proposed: bench, chair, and table. In service of modern urban architecture, these modules can be installed individually or combined to form groups, promoting collective uses and event organization.
The 13 modules presented by the architecture firm Bruit du frigo, in the experimentation phase, are prototypes testing this innovative concept before large-scale production along the entire waterfront.

Local and Sustainable Materials

The modules are made of concrete produced with local uncalcined clay, a low-carbon impact material with high environmental value.
This type of cement reduces carbon footprint and energy consumption by 50% compared to traditional concrete. This innovative technology uses clay sourced from local waste in a circular economy, a mineral resource inherently low in carbon and abundant.

Local Low-Impact Production

The entire production chain and industrial processes, from raw materials to on-site distribution, are carried out locally, further reducing the environmental impact.
The cement made with non-calcined clay gives the concrete elements an ochre hue and a finish similar to stone, enhancing aesthetics and sustainability. The prototypes were produced in the Landes region by Materrup©, the innovative company behind this virtuous material.
