Symphony of light and space for the unique aura of Earnscliffe House

A complete restructuring that is a poetic project to transform a duplex into a single-family home in the heart of the Notre-Dame-de-Grâce neighborhood in Montreal. The Earnscliffe House celebrates the cohabitation of different generations, two children and a grandfather, using beauty as a means to inspire harmony

A metamorphosis that transcends space

The Canadian studio Le Borgne Rizk Architecture is in charge of the renovation project of the house Earnscliffe, creating a metamorphosis that transcends space by flooding it with light and creating corners of relaxing beauty that inspire family harmony. The two levels of the building become a cohesive unit, a "symphony of light and space," thanks to the refined staircase elegantly suspended, which is a living picture of details in wood, metal, and glass, and the double height that opens onto the corridor on the upper floor

The distribution of spaces

The spaces of the house are open and flooded with light. On the ground floor, a large kitchen in dark wood and marble articulates, with its functional island, the flows of convivial spaces towards the dining room and the living room. Here, a home-office corner fits in like a tile of a mosaic that portrays both family and professional life together. The sleeping area on the upper floor is divided into four bedrooms and two bathrooms that overlook the double-height space in front of the staircase

The staircase, a living frame of details in wood, metal, and glass

The staircase, a connecting element both functionally and symbolically, is treated as a sculptural and decorative piece rich in details useful for everyday life. Elegant and sturdy at the same time, it conceals convenient drawers, warms the environment with its chocolate-colored wood, and its metal structure plays with the reflections of natural light. Each step is illuminated by a soft glow that the triangular glass balustrade allows to glimpse beyond its translucent safety barrier. The staircase of Earnscliffe House, "this same articulation of wood, becomes the path through which life manifests and circulates."
