The firm Objekt Architecten is commissioned to convert a 2-car garage into a garden room, maintaining the need for a covered parking space. In its original state, the existing house is L-shaped; with the addition of a new volume, the architects enclosed the outdoor area along the east side as well, creating a U-shaped patio. A southern feel is created, thanks in part to the pink stone slabs of the outdoor paving that contrast with the vegetation. The new vineyard planted against the old facade creates a natural connection between old and new, and enchants during the autumn months when the leaves turn red.
Converting a garage into a comfortable garden room, where you can enjoy your lazy time
A new garden room in Denderbelle, Belgium, inspired by the Italian archaeological site Villa di Livia di Prima Porta with its naturalistic frescoes in Rome. Carved out of an existing garage, along with the residential building which it is part of, it embraces the garden offering residents a place to enjoy time and nature

The garden room enclosure body is covered in aluminum profiled in a Swedish red color - Faluröd - that contrasts nicely with the existing house's gray concrete exterior wall. By dividing the rectangular floor plan of the new volume diagonally, more space was created in the garage on the street side, freeing up extra space for bicycles. The rear was optimally used to provide the widest possible view of the garden opening to the rear
The garage door is covered with the same material as the facade, making it invisible. The front part of the garden room had two beautiful windows. A large window at street level was hidden allowing the aluminum cladding to continue in a jealous look. This provides some contact with what is happening on the street, preventing the view from the outside. At the end of the roof-garden room slope, there is a second large window through which southern light enters
Inside the garden room, a consistent use of finishes and materials was chosen. Both the interior walls and the ceiling and furnishings have the same wood paneling, thus accentuating the room's spaciousness. The connection to the existing house is a single sliding door with the same wood finish. The garage was given the additional function of storage space for garden materials; a double-leaf door connects it directly to the garden providing a useful direct passage from the streeta
