At the heart of the Mamaliga restaurant, the interior design seamlessly blends with nature, creating an atmosphere suspended between reality and imagination. The interior design project by the architectural studio Belenko Design embraces eco-friendly materials, elements of Bessarabian tradition, and suggestive lighting that transforms every corner into a work of art.

Design Inspiration

The inspiration for the interior design of Mamaliga restaurant comes from the interweaving of vines that envelop the space. The project aims to create an intriguing ambiguity for visitors: is the climbing plant a natural extension of the space, or is the place itself an organic part of this lush environment?
The approach used by the Belenko Design studio is intriguing and evocative, known for creating exciting interiors in various restaurant projects.

Unique Lighting and Details

Crystal chandeliers create islands of light, filtering through the foliage that wraps around the ceiling and spills along the walls.
Another striking feature that fills the space is the series of terracotta pitchers, ubiquitous from the dining rooms to the bathrooms, where large amphora-shaped sinks add a unique touch.

The restaurant spans two floors and includes a terrace.
To emphasize the ecological style, micro-cement counters have been designed to give a clay-like appearance. The stairs are made using the same approach, with wrought iron balustrades framing the steps.
Mamaliga embraces many elements of Bessarabian ethnic style, reflecting its cultural proximity to Ukraine. The walls of the second floor are adorned with ancient Bessarabian patchwork carpets.

Distinctive elements of the restaurant

The central chandelier, designed by the Belenko studio, features a series of three hundred and sixty-five vintage lampshades, forming a captivating focal point. This chandelier extends through the second floor and elegantly descends to the first. The second floor also boasts an open area with amphora-shaped sinks. The authentic charm of the environment is further enhanced by elements such as bathroom walls created with textures reminiscent of traditional clay huts.

Natural and Eco-Friendly Materials

Natural and eco-friendly materials are essential to the restaurant design philosophy. The first-floor flooring is made of terrazzo tiles, while the second floor features parquet and sandstone. The "vine" intertwining in the ceiling is made of hazelnut and willow.
