Architect Alexander Symes recycles materials from an old house at the end of its life cycle to create a sustainable, functional and comfortable home, the Up-Cycle House
The house covers 104 square meters, with three bedrooms, two bathrooms and a large living room, with dining room and open plan kitchen. The entrance to the house is through a "solar pergola" that provides shelter and generates 1kw of energy from its photovoltaic cells
Inside, recycled windows and reclaimed tiles and wood are used in the house in order to create a unified aesthetic that is both playful and practical. On the outside, the large garden was created in a sequence of usable spaces through the use of recycled railroad ties and salvaged bricks
