Inaugurated in December 2023 and winner of the Swedish architecture award Kasper Salin Prize in the same year, the Wisdome Stockholm houses a café, an exhibition hall, and the incredible spherical space. One of the latest architectural projects by the Elding Oscarson studio, the extension interacts with the existing museum with respect and sensitivity, intertwining its functions through a courtyard
The designers decide not to create the classic low volume with a protruding dome, but, believing in the innovative construction that sustainable projects should encompass, challenge the architectural properties of materials and the potential of wooden construction by creating a unique organism. A unique interior space and a revealing external form: the spherical volume has a focal position under a free-form wooden structure. The single-story building extends for 26 meters on one side and 48 on the other, while the roof is located between the dome and the low linear facades
The gridshell structure, made of LVL panels, is the first of its kind in the world. This required a great technical, design, and construction effort, reflecting what happens in every technological advancement: the research that pushes the boundaries of what is possible.
