The renovation of this three-story Victorian Townhouse in Wimbledon consists of a series of independent interventions that also have an overall impact on the perception of the residence
Materials are matched, colors are overlaid, and textures are mixed to emphasize the role of each individual intervention. For the bike rack, which includes planters to enliven the monotonous street that the townhouse overlooks, Corten steel and teak slats are used in combination
On the ground floor, inside, a subdued gray lacquered wood paneling defines the container volume that separates the front living room from the lounge; the separation is further emphasized by exposing an existing steel beam painted in a bright color. The gym, set within the garden, is clad with larch wood that echoes the new finish of the boundary wall facing the street
The intermediate floor of the residence receives treatment to visually expand the limited available space. The bedroom in the attic is enlarged by freeing the space from old, redundant partitions and moving its entrance to the level below
