Renovation of a Roman villa. Stained glass, stone and wood in order to "live in the open air"

In a residential area of Rome, the single-family villa, which is the protagonist of the renovation is surrounded by nature. The stone, wood and large windows contribute to create an environment that becomes one with the external landscape

The renovation of this Roman villa starts from two main and connected needs, the need to connect the two cores of the house: the living area (at street level) and the garden area that includes the swimming pool (on the lower level) and therefore to be able to experience more of the outdoor space making it part of the house. The concept from which the ArchSIDE studio started was: "living in the open air" on any day of the year, creating a space that makes use of the outdoor areas for playing and relaxing

To do this, it was necessary to overturn the plan and therefore the distribution of the features of the old house, which was designed as if the residence and garden did not communicate. In fact, the living room overlooked the street side facing north, while the view towards the garden, the swimming pool and the valley was left to the bedrooms facing south

Today the sleeping area has been moved to the street side and the living area instead enjoys the beautiful panoramic view of the valley. The next step came almost naturally with the connecting of the living area with the hobby room located downstairs, combining living room and hobby room and creating a large double height living area. Nature did the rest

The desire to experience the outside has guided not only the distribution choices but also the choice of materials and decorations. The predominant presence of wood, stone and the large windows that open onto the landscape have contributed to the creation of that desired unicum with the outside, opening up surprising perspectives to the inhabitants of the house

The collaboration with Geopietra has made it possible to create a spectacular stone wall inside the villa that structurally supports the double height of the living area, while visually separating it from the sleeping area. The model used is Alberese with warm tones and a soft and material texture. Murogeopietra, with its soft tones, also covers part of the external facade of the villa; the interior and exterior once again find the perfect symbiosis
