The school has an elongated shape, which adapts to the topography of the terrain, with a main view of the ocean. In order to differentiate the academic spaces according to the different needs of the educational cycles and to have a feeling of fluidity outside, the space is distributed in separate modules
School with organic architecture in the forest. Natural materials inspire children
Salagnac Arquitectos studio designs a school in a forest in Costa Rica, whose architecture has the task of being in harmony with the place where it stands and of conveying the concept of education through the use of natural materials
In the centre is the main building in which the main classrooms, administration, bathrooms, kitchen and dining room are located. On one hand, there is the performing arts hall, the car park and the main entrance, while on the other hand there are the kindergarten classrooms, for which activities based on sensations have been designed.
The architecture has a spiral that opens at the entrance, the ceiling is made of interlocking round pieces of wood that follow the shape of the spiral. In the centre of the roof structure there is a circular opening that allows natural light to enter, which changes according to the position of the sun.
The configuration of the six primary classes, on the other hand, is more moderate and formal. There is a more spatial and structural order, which has facilitated construction and avoided any waste of materials. The structure, built on stilts, has modules separated from each other by an open patio. The roof seems to float, so that the air refreshes the interior spaces.
