The very essence of the cottage is the communion with nature. This is the project idea of Architects Marie-Claude Hamelin and Loukas Yiacouvakis of YH2 studio: to create a warm and simple wooden house open to nature and the lake

The house is located on the site of an old family cottage, a few steps from the shores of Lac Plaisant in the Mauricie region. Thanks to its simplicity, moderation and refinement, the project of the design team aims to capture the essence of the life of the cottage, a wooden house designed for holidays that enables a true communion with nature

Characterized by an internal and external wooden structure, the only large pediment of the house covers all living spaces. Located in a small clearing, the house is a pure and light volume resting on a turf. Its architecture is sober and modest, in tune with the surrounding clearing and the lake

The exterior of both the roof and the walls is entirely covered with white cedar boards. On both long sides of the building there are three large high glass panels that create a continuous link between the interior and exterior spaces. The south side is entirely made of glass, creating a direct link between the lake and the living spaces, arranged under a large double-height pediment that extends outwards to cover a small porch

The complete transparency of the southern facade leaves ample sunlight in autumn and winter, while the mature trees between the house and the lake moderate the summer sun and offer a high degree of privacy in the sailing season. The balloon structure, with its exposed wooden bosses and white painted beams, giving the building a unique rhythm of light and shade

The cottage has a tranquil atmosphere. It is a cottage designed for the family, it can accommodate up to 12 people in two bedrooms on the ground floor and a large open sleeping area on the second floor

This cottage is designed as an expression of the art of living: a gentle, simple and pure way of life
