The Architects of maurusfrei Architekten AG and Their Approach

The creators of this project are the architects of maurusfrei Architekten AG, a renowned Swiss studio with around fifty employees spread between Zurich and Chur. Leading the studio is architect Maurus Frei, who with thirty years of experience in the field believes that extraordinary and memorable architecture stems from brilliant projects and absolute dedication. These principles guided the realization of "Wohnen im rebberg," literally "living among the vineyards."

The Unique Design of "Wohnen im rebberg"

The eccentric name is explained by the shapes of the buildings, which resemble the typical terraces of vineyards. The complex, with an unconventional layout, is composed of different structures designed to adapt to the slope of the terrain. Two single-family houses and seventeen apartments make up the complex. The facades, structured horizontally, feature bands of windows at various heights.

Materials and Landscape Integration: Murogeopietra® and Green Roofs

To cover the facades, retaining walls, and surrounding walls, Murogeopietra® was chosen, Bergamo model, characterized by regular stones laid dry, which give solidity and regularity to the masonry, in a range of light shades, mainly Bianco Terra and Bianco Reale, for an elegant, harmonious, and uniform final result. This cladding has also been extended to the balconies of the spacious terraces, which abound throughout the entire complex. Perfect integration into the surrounding landscape is ensured by green roofs and natural elements such as small gardens and water features, which not only create green spaces but also ensure privacy between the residences.
