In the Catskill Mountain region, among forests, hills, cultivated fields, and nostalgic of the legendary Woodstock festival, stands the Black Crystal: a mystical treehouse for Kasia and Adam's family weekends, just a two-hour drive from the mega-metropolis of New York.
Kasia and Adam were fortunate enough to be able to purchase a building plot in this highly sought-after area for its natural beauty and proximity to New York. Eager to realize their dream of a treehouse, they turned to the German studio Baumraum, discovering the studio through the media as they sought inspiration and information, becoming fascinated by the "Cliff Treehouse" project, a perfect example of their ideal vision.
The clients, enthusiasts of modern architecture projects with essential lines, wanted a treehouse that would depart from tradition to express a unique and contemporary design. The design combined innovative and artisanal solutions: some components, made of wood and metal, were produced in Germany and transported to the site, where they were carefully assembled by a regional company of artisans selected with great attention. From this process emerged Black Crystal, a house suspended between sky and earth, capable of combining construction quality and an iconic aesthetic.
Inside, the warmth of oak wood envelops the spaces, creating a stark contrast with the dark, almost ethereal exterior that seems to float among the trees. The walls and roof feature a geometric pattern in oak, with profiles that follow angular lines to emphasize the crystalline shape of the structure. The furnishings have been designed for maximum functionality: the sofa can transform into a spacious bed thanks to custom-designed inserts, while the gallery offers a multifunctional space, ideal for sleeping, playing, or relaxing surrounded by nature.
