Renovation of a rural building in Tuscany. Innovation and continuity for the Residential identity

The LDA.iMdA studio project in San Miniato focuses on the new residential identity of an old rural building, probably built before 1940 thanks to a careful restoration that reinterprets the characteristic elements of the barn.

In keeping with the building's previous rural identity, the eaves, downpipes and windows were eliminated, while the latter was replaced by openings that were inserted as intervals between the volumes or hidden behind large brick diaphragms. At the base, the connection with the adjacent lawn is very direct: in fact, the sidewalks have been replaced with a small strip of gravel

Inside, architectural continuity and innovation intertwine: the sense of unitary space typical of the barn has been maintained, creating very fluid spaces in terms of both elevation and floor plan. With the exception of the more technical spaces and the guest room, all the vital areas of the house are interconnected

The sense of warmth and sobriety that pervades all the interior spaces is due to the exasperated chromatic homogeneity achieved thanks to the meticulous research carried out on materials

The technology can be seen in a functional but sober way, both in terms of visual presence and system presence: architectural elements conceal technological elements while radiant panel heating and electrical sockets have also been hidden. A thorough design of the convective movements and ventilation has made it possible to limit the need for cooling systems
