The house that the clients wanted was a very small, functional house with extremely low running costs, thanks to water collection and storage, the use of solar energy, and the water runoff from the roof. The challenge was taken up by architect Nadine Engelbrecht, who embarked on the journey with this family
A stony façade for Cottage Rock, so you can climb the walls of your own home
The clients' and designers' journey in designing and building Cottage Rock was a beautiful one, inspired by their desire to move out of the city, to a place where they could breathe fresh air and be in touch with nature

In Cottage Rock, there are almost no barriers between nature and the residence, from north to south, thanks to large sliding doors on both sides of the house. The first visit to the site resulted in a beautiful excursion, among inaccessible rocky hills: the accessibility of the site remained a great challenge throughout the construction
The materials needed were not processed. Given the client's passion for climbing, the side walls of the house are made of stone, so natural stones taken from the site were used for construction. The principles of thermal design ensure a comfortable temperature during various seasons
