Renovation by the San Francisco Bay. New flexible spaces for the Haiku House

The SHED studio renovates and redesigns the dynamism of a villa at the center of a property composed of four distinct structures, located between gardens of local and exotic plants, extending from the cliff to the bay

In Tiburon, California, the American studio SHED renovates and reorganizes the space and dynamism of a villa in the center of a property consisting of a main house, guest house, beachfront villa and garage located amidst gardens of local and exotic plants

The steep concrete walkway and small car parking yard were difficult to navigate and insecure. The walkway lacked a connection to the main house, while the rear deck was too small, which was not in line with the design of a new swimming pool. The main house was narrow with a number of bedrooms and bathrooms on the lower floor and a loft with sloping ceiling on the upper floor

The new vision of the house includes spacious and open living spaces, a redesigned entrance, a space dedicated to the office, a spacious master bedroom and a Zen room. The main house was based on the model of the traditional Japanese Haiku house built using a Douglas fir tree trunk frame that supports a large pitched tile roof typically raised above the floor, brushed fir ceilings and oak cladding inside

A concrete containment wall is added to the exterior to level and expand the car space and create a more functional access walkway. The entrance is moved to the side of the house to minimize vehicle noise and improve the connection to the new design. The rear deck is extended to accommodate the new infinity pool with a panoramic view of San Francisco Bay

Inside, the staircase is flipped to create space for the new entrance with a more open layout. The new spacious kitchen and living room have a magnificent view of the bay. Finally, functional elements such as a wardrobe, a storage room, an office and a Zen room are added to meet the customer's requirements for a living space more suited to their lifestyle
