Mar Mediterráneo 34: a new materiality regenerate stheeclectic French-style spaces

MM34 dating back tothe year 1910 and located in Tacuba, Mexico City and featuring aneclectic French style with recognized historical value has been renovated by working on the original elements of the era that are merged with new solutions and materials

The renovation project of Mar Mediterráneo 34 began with the idea of giving a new life to a house designed in two volumes, in which the first incorporates the main facade while the second has a view of the patio. Both volumes were in an advanced state of deterioration and especially these condone was in ruins

Based on these characteristics, Inca Hernandez attempted to first of all recover and restore the original elements of the period, starting with the numerous artistic elements of the main facade, with the intention of re-establishing the new urban image. The interior is reconstructed as a reinterpretation of the past through a contemporary perspective, in which a volume in the existing main patio rises framing the sky and portrays the layout of the old portals as a sequence of light and shadow

The project intended to merge what is prevalent and what is renewed through a linear connection between two eras: this connection is also reflected at theen tranceby a volcanic stones kirting that surrounds theen tire groundfloor and acts as a base to lift what has re-emerged. There stored house has 3 levels and 7 apartments that fit different flexible spaces

The goal of the project was to create a legacy that would encourage the transformation of Tacuba toenhance and save its value through artistic heritage and by exploiting the spaces in a sustainable way to give life to the magical neighborhood
