In the prestigious territory of the Belluno Dolomites, in an area considered a landscape heritage site and protected by an environmental protection order, a mountain hut in need of new space has been given an expansion by the architects of depaolidefranceschibaldan studio, which skillfully blends into the existing structure and harmoniously incorporates innovative functional elements

Local stone, larch wood and glass are the materials used to make up the three volumes in which the expansion is developed to crown and rebalance the three duplex residential units in the existing building

The first volume on the ground floor has a southeastern exposure and expands the space dedicated to the living room; its finishes are considered to be the base of the chalet: irregular slabs of local stone interrupted by bands of porphyry in continuity with the existing cladding are interspersed with the large windows in the living area

The second volume is a parallelepiped projecting from the base, trapezoidal in shape and covered with larch wood slats which transform the wall face from a wall to a sunshade at the openings. The same material motif is repeated in the volume that expands the first floor
