In the restyling of the WRC House by BEAR progetti architects, the existing masonry parapets of the internal staircase immediately appeared as a heavy barrier obstructing both the internal flow of pathways and the entry of natural light into the central space of the house. The simplification intervention led to the choice of a parapet with vertical slats in bleached fir wood that would leave space for function in the cleanest possible way, without sacrificing the inhabitants' safety
The restyling of WRC House. An elegant style revamped with bold material touches
A 1970s house to be renovated to adapt it to a modern lifestyle and lighten it from the weight of time past: the project for the WRC House primarily aims to make living more functional and practical through targeted changes to certain structural elements

Another element immediately identified by the designers as an object on which to intervene was the large block of the fireplace, in the center of the living area: another strong element of closure and separation of this space, which instead, thanks to the new interior design, is reduced in size and lightened in its upper part, ensuring greater internal visual communication. The repositioning of the dining and living areas was intended to make the house more practical, to give the right space to these two activities according to the importance attached to them by the owners, and to enhance the spectacular view from inside
The studio's clients also asked for a specific space to be dedicated to work from home; to this end, a desk was defined that exploits the height differences already present in the home in an area that was previously little used and that now regains value and becomes, indeed, one of the most occupied spaces. The rooms have been kept in their original positions but the internal paths have been revised to generate environments with different degrees of privacy; the bathrooms have also remained in their previous position but have been completely revised
The materials used for this intervention were carefully chosen to give back sober and relaxing spaces but at the same time to have strong visual and material contrasts. Thus whitened fir wood was used for the made-to-measure furniture, the boiseries with a texture of thin vertical strips and for the staircase parapets; naturalized oak flooring, on the other hand, brings a note of warmth that unites all the spaces. For all the stone surfaces contrasting with the wood, the decisive character of Ceppo di Gré was chosen, which in its gray coloring renews the elegant character of the home while providing a bold material accent
