Montenovo Castle: rebirth of stones and memories

The first mention of the Montenovo Castle dates back to 1209, in the imperial diploma of Otto IV: the construction, which began in 1637 by the Barducci family of Montenovo, underwent a renovation following a recent collapse of the entire structure.

Restoration of the castle between history and innovation

The Montenovo Castle is the subject of a significant historical reconstruction: following a collapse that compromised 80% of the entire structure, the Project One Studio studio, known for other architecture projects, intervenes with the project of architectural renovation. The intervention involves a significant effort, both economically and in terms of design, as the same materials from the era were used, employing cutting-edge construction techniques, with unique architectural details.

But what is the story of Montenovo Castle?

The Montenovo Castle is mentioned for the first time in an imperial diploma of Otto IV, in 1209: it was the subject of dispute between the Archbishop of Ravenna, the lords of Rimini, and those of Cesena. The construction, started in 1637 by the Barducci di Montenovo family, was completed and consecrated the following century, in 1754, almost a century later. Subject to several renovations and modifications, Montenovo Castle saw the most recent ones in 1936 and 1951, when repairs were carried out following the damages of the Second World War. Inside the castle, there is a Annunciation dated 1834, a work by S. Montanari, a priest and painter from Gatteo.
