A cube: geometries in the green, a sustainable and contemplative extension

In the heart of a Belgian forest, the Crahay Jamaigne studio designs a compact and refined extension: a cube clad in Corten steel that interacts with nature.

A flexible extension designed for the future

Located in the heart of a wooded area, this expansion project designed by the Crahay Jamaigne studio is conceived to evolve over time, adapting to different needs in the short, medium, and long term. The current program includes a bedroom, a bathroom, and a multifunctional space dedicated to work or relaxation, directly connected to the ground floor of the existing house. Versatility is the distinctive feature of the project, designed to transform into a mini independent accommodation, a guest unit, or a multigenerational studio.

A compact and bioclimatic volume immersed in nature

The expansion takes the form of a 7-meter cube, a compact and self-sufficient volume that interacts with the surrounding environment through targeted design choices. The Corten steel cladding, with its textured surface and bronzed tone, evokes the color palette of the undergrowth and integrates perfectly with the stone cladding of the main house. The green roof further strengthens this connection with the landscape, camouflaging the structure and enhancing its bioclimatic performance.

Physical and visual connections between architecture and landscape

The new volume is accessible in two ways: through a direct connection with the existing house or independently, thanks to a separate external entrance. A glass walkway serves as a transparent and lightweight transitional element, allowing for a physical and visual connection between the two architectures without compromising the harmony of the site. The surrounding space, intentionally left in its natural state, preserves the biodiversity of the undergrowth and enhances the contemplative atmosphere of the intervention.

A space to inhabit, observe, transform

The peculiarity of this among various similar architectural projects is that it is not just a simple expansion; it is a living device that evolves with those who inhabit it. Every construction choice is designed to ensure thermal comfort, functional flexibility, and landscape integration. Whether it's a quiet retreat among the trees, a creative studio, or a small guest house, the cube in the woods signed by [architect's name] is a manifesto of sustainable and contemporary architecture.
