Located in Syracuse, this small residence, a former fisherman's house has been renovated by the Moncada Rangel Studio, where small spaces are highlighted by the vertical textures of the walls to become artworks
Overlooking the Ionian Sea, this former fishermen's house has been transformed into a diptych of one or two units, depending on the number of visitors. The idea behind the renovation project was to maintain the eclectic use of materials and restore the original layout
The eclectic structure of the house, its sea view were the incentive to design this house with intense but natural colors that are the same as the colors of the sky, the sea, the roofs, which appear as if to create a continuum between the terrace, the center of the house and its interior
When the stucco on the inside walls was pulled out, it was discovered that the house was built gradually, room by room and not as a whole project. This is clearly seen in the way the house itself is used, connected by a small staircase, embedded between the ancient walls, which is highlighted by the whiteness of the walls and the bright colors of the metal staircase
All it encloses is a white box, while the materials chosen are reminiscent of the sea and its constantly changing color. The palette of materials creates a blue polychrome materiality, which vibrates when exposed to intense natural light. Even the furnishings are in contrast to this box, but always in harmony with the color of the house
The details are the colors that can be found on the walls and in the furnishings and they draw attention to the detail as specific focal points and not general, making this house "big" and comfortable
