Coworking Silversquare. Interior design project between utopia and dystopia

Designed with the support of the commissioning architects of Silversquare, but with maximum openness to the ideas of designers, the interior project for Coworking Silversquare is two symbolic responses to contemporary environmental issues: one through utopia and the other through dystopia

Utopia is Biomimetic

The utopian response is designed by the Dutch designer Lilian van Daal, known for her work on "biomimicry": the intricate designs of nature provide ideas for smarter and more sustainable interior design projects. In this project, Lilian uses natural forms to create sustainable solutions and a sense of connection with the environment, consequently promoting well-being and reducing stress.

Telephone booths and alcoves made of bio-based materials

To address the challenge of noise pollution in coworking spaces, the designer creates conceptualized telephone booths entirely made of a unique, porous material with the right shape to absorb sound. The "alcoves" are instead designed as niches for small meetings in the open space: they are 3D printed, mimicking layered mud nests, and provide privacy and maximization of workspace

3D printing, sand, and PET

Desks, on the other hand, feature a special structure with 3D printed joints that allow for easy assembly and replacement of parts if they were to break. Other creations by van Daal include a meeting table with legs that mimic termite mounds, made of 3D printed sand, and finally, lamps inspired by seashells made using the FDM technique and recycled PET plastic

Positive Dystopia

The Belgian sculptor and set designer Théo Demans, passionate about ecology and resource circularity, with his background in theater and cinema set design, focuses on the project part that responds in a dystopian way to contemporary challenges. However, he wants to maintain the focus on the positive aspects and is inspired by visionary projects such as spaceships and the recycling of available resources
