Daylight Dyke House: contemporary elegance in the Dutch landscape

Daylight Dyke House in Green Heart, Netherlands, is a countryside house that is not only located on top of a dyke, but is an integral part of it with a panoramic view of the trees, polders, and ditches that run through the meadows and the natural reserve that surrounds it.

Residential elegance in harmony with nature

The Daylight Dyke House, designed by the Mirck Architecture studio, is an example of elegant residential architecture projects that are well integrated into the natural surroundings. The materials that characterize it, concrete, glass, and corten steel, create a balanced combination of solidity, transparency, warmth, and color. Inside, the carefully designed use of openings for natural light entrance provides the sensation of being at the center of the natural spectacle unfolding outside.

Technology and light games for a suggestive comfort

Several ingenious technological solutions control the supply of light and warmth inside the house. In the evening, it is possible to create a more intimate and protected atmosphere thanks to the curtains. Smooth concrete is used for the finishing of the floors and the staircase leading to the basement. Here, unexpected openings reveal the sky and the light coming from above gives a particular sensation of being in an underwater environment.

Color Scheme and Unique Details

The color scheme of the house is simple, almost austere, with a palette dominated by white, gray, black, and the light warm oak used for the kitchen cabinets. This elegant neutrality is enriched by unique elements, such as the antique Chinese wooden doors leading to the main bedroom. These artifacts add a personal touch and tell a story of travels and tradition, creating a harmonious contrast with the contemporary atmosphere of the interiors.

Connection with the landscape through the garden

The landscape garden, designed by the acclaimed Dutch landscape architect Piet Oudolf, plays a key role in connecting the house to the surrounding landscape. Native plants and the natural organization of green spaces create a visual continuum between the interior and exterior, fostering a sense of immersion in nature. The external buildings, clad in natural materials such as wood treated with the traditional Shou Sugi Ban technique, blend organically with both the house and the garden. This choice of finishes strengthens the elegant design of the residence and enhances the relationship between architecture and the natural context.
