From difficulty to design opportunity. Bundle House in Menorca

A long trapezoidal-shaped lot, sloping and with an oblique orientation towards the sea, challenges the ingenuity of architects to build the Bundle House. The result is a 350 sqm villa consisting of nine parallelepipeds of varying heights that embrace the land, the trees, and the azure expanse of the Mediterranean Sea

A strategic architectural composition

Nomo Studio is a team of professionals specializing in architectural project, urban planning, graphic and product design, as well as sociological research. In 2023, they were commissioned for the project of the Bundle House, for which, from the complexity of the terrain, they managed to derive a strategic architectural composition that transforms difficulty into design opportunities

Absolute continuity between interiors and exteriors: fully openable corner windows

The steep slope of the lot is skillfully occupied by the nine volumes that make up the villa; they intertwine with the majestic pre-existing trees and open their corners to breathtaking views of the sea. In the gardens of Bundle House, intimate relaxation areas are designed by the terraces that run along the lot, following its shape. The continuity between indoor and outdoor spaces is absolute, the innovative technology used for the fully openable corner windows ensures that the panorama becomes part of the internal space

The central courtyard provides ventilation, shade, and shelter

At the heart of the building is the square central courtyard, with a side of 6 meters; the double-height living areas that overlook it reflect the natural light it captures and channels into the house. This open space, furnished with an integrated sofa and armchairs, serves multiple functions: in summer, it allows for excellent natural ventilation and shade; in winter, it offers an open space protected from the winds. Separated from the interiors by two full-height angular windows, with sliding openings, the courtyard can merge and become one with the porch and the living area

Structure and finishes between sandstone, ceramic, granite, and wood

The light sand-colored volumes of Bundle House house a structure consisting of masonry walls and slender metal columns, ceilings with ceramic and exposed concrete vaults. The floors, echoing the design of the ceilings, are made of local sandstone and provide a neutral stage for the soft and natural palette of the interiors. The richness of the internal textures, between sandstone, ceramic, granite, and wood, contrasts with the minimalism of the exteriors

The internal distribution of the villa

The spaces on the ground floor of the villa flow smoothly around the patio; a sculptural metal staircase leads to the first floor where, instead of corridors, bright open rooms meet. The bedrooms are spacious and airy, including the space of the services with open sinks, mirrors, and grooved glass cabins for showers and toilets. The closets are closed by soft curtains, optimizing space and softening the design. Externally, a sprawling pool blends with the architecture and a strange cantilevered staircase, which adds a touch of fantasy, leads to the rooftop terrace extending towards the magnificent panorama
