The passions for pastry and French bulldogs are the soul of the project for the café French Kitsch III in Nakhon Ratchasima, 250 km from Bangkok: a parallelepiped carved with imperfect arches that recall the curves of croissants, windows that evoke Gothic cathedrals, and exposed concrete that provides solidity and style

Cathedrals, French bulldogs, and croissants

A playful yet elegant image is what the owner wants for his café, and Bankok TOUCH Architect studio perfectly manages to create it by working on the name of the venue: French Kitsch III. The concept of "French" is reflected in the pastry, in the brand image of the beloved French bulldogs, and in the architectural form of the arch chosen by the designers to evoke French cathedrals

A game of imperfect arches

Kitsch, on the other hand, is the playful and imperfect element that gives the original impulse to the project: the aforementioned arches are realized as soft and imperfect twists of a croissant. A rhythmic succession of arches sculpted from raw concrete embraces the visitors of the cafeteria, creating a fascinating play of shadows along the path

The interiors of the cafeteria

A large arch creates a continuum between the counter and the second floor of the cafeteria; thus the full-function counter is highlighted and visible from both levels. Upstairs, in the negative spaces of the curves, openings are carved through which natural light filters

Layered Concrete and Impactful Environment

As typical of TOUCH architect's style, where simple materials are used to create impactful, experimental, and sustainable architectural projects, here in French Kitsch III raw and layered concrete is used: the rough, unfinished walls, reminiscent once again of croissant dough, reflect the authenticity of the material and the perfection of imperfection. Against this sculptural concrete backdrop, the furnishings, LED lights, and decorations stand out, creating the desired impactful image for the café
