Shadows Pavilion in Gravity: the lightness of a poetic installation

The Pabellón Sombras en Gravedad, designed by Eletres Studio and UDD SurSur, is an experimental installation that explores the relationship between light, form, and territory, transforming public space into an immersive and temporary experience of architecture and culture.

A collaborative project for the territory

The Pabellón Sombras en Gravedad represents one of the most innovative outdoor projects recently realized. Born from the collaboration between the architecture firm Eletres Studio and the Carrera de Arquitectura UDD SurSur of Concepción, in Chile, the project aims to create an experimental and sensory pavilion. The installation celebrates the social and landscape values of the Teatro Regional del Biobío, designed by Smiljan Radic, Eduardo Castillo, and Gabriela Medrano, one of the most significant cultural contexts in the country.

Academic Experience and Ephemeral Design

The project was born within Experiencia Detonante 01 - Contact with the territory, an annual academic cycle of the Taller di Architettura UDD SurSur, involving first-year students and teachers. Developed in the second semester of 2023, the pavilion was designed by the team composed of Miguel Nazar, Yanko Bugueño, José Angel Brunel, and Alessandra Sandolo. The goal was to explore the relationship between space, time, and ephemeral architecture, temporarily transforming the territory through an experimental workshop.

Form, structure, and visual balance

The pavilion is characterized by an architectural language that plays with gravity and light. Six inflatable spheres, arranged radially and anchored to a metal ring supported by six three-meter-high vertical columns, appear to float thanks to light support frames. The structure covers an area of approximately 35 m² and is stabilized by concrete counterweights, ensuring a balance between structural rigor and ephemeral visual perception. Each sphere creates an individual luminous environment that, combined with the other volumes, generates an immersive atmosphere, emphasizing the idea of gravity absence and transforming physical space into a symbolic dimension.

Public space and Eletres Studio's vision

Oriented towards the west, the pavilion aligns with the axis connecting the Teatro del Biobío to the 27F Memorial, transforming the central space into a cultural scenario for reflection and temporary gathering. This installation not only reinterprets public space but also gives a new meaning to daily activities. Behind the project is Eletres Studio, founded in Peru by Luis Albino and Danerix Cardenas, known for its experimental approach. The studio combines innovative and sustainable solutions, proposing installations that redefine the relationship between architecture and territory in international contexts.
