A " customized " staircase. Organic design combining Gold and Transparency

South American architect Carlos A. Ott designed the Hotel Las Américas Golden Tower. The design also includes the concept of the internal staircase. The detailed design of the staircase and the construction were done in Italy. Specifically, the architect chose the company Faraone to build it

The organic shape of the staircase is similar to that of a drop with the narrowest part at the two rhomboidal landings and the curved part that connects the two ramps at 3.80 m in height. The staircase has a difference in height of about 7.50 m, has a length of about 11 meters in plan and a width of 4m

The load-bearing structure has a tubular section, formed by curved sheets welded together, which follows the path of the staircase and provides support for the glazed steps and landings, in a timely manner. The parapets of the staircase have large longitudinal cuts filled with sheets of curved laminated glass

The feeling you get when climbing the stairs is that of being suspended at half of the height, thanks to the steps and landings that are totally transparent in 12+12+12 laminated extra-clear tempered glass. The internal part of the structure houses the LED lighting system that rhythmically marks each step

The load-bearing structure is highlighted through the use of paints that have a chromatic relevance that gives the name to the staircase. In fact, the external part is painted black while the internal part is painted gold. The central column, with a triangular section, is painted black, has a metal structure and ends with a point through a circular connection

It is important to underline the complexity of the work, which was inserted in spaces already built and with almost no margin for error and at the same time the skill of all the workers, who took part in the "enterprise. Architect Ott decided from the outset that the only company capable of implementing this project was the Faraone company. Sabatino Faraone, the owner of the company, stated: "a staircase of this shape, size and material could seem, from the beginning to be an impossible request, but our company managed to achieve it thanks to our deep technical knowledge and the company's know-how"

The shape, the materials, the colours, the light are all elements that have contributed to make the work striking and overwhelming and to transform a simple staircase into a sculptural work
