Suprematist-inspired office - SLAVA 2024 in Moscow

In the historic heart of Moscow, the office of SLAVA 2024 represents a perfect example of a modern reinterpretation of Suprematism principles. This Russian artistic movement, founded by Kazimir Malevich, has inspired an environment where geometry, light, and functionality harmoniously interact.

Historical Context and Project Objective

The headquarters, designed by the Maxim Kashin Architects studio specialized in interior design for commercial spaces, is housed in the historic SLAVA watch factory, dating back to the 1920s. The project aims to create a modern office that maintains a connection with the past, integrating elements of contemporary design.

Suprematist Design

Interior design is based on essential geometric shapes: circles, rectangles, and straight lines. The dominant shades are white and beige, with details designed to emphasize the perception of space. The vertical panels and furnishings, made with thin steel sheets of only 2 mm, recall the aesthetics of the "paper architects" of the 1970s.

Ideology and volumetric architecture

Maxim Kashin's project goes beyond the two-dimensional plane of Suprematism to explore three-dimensional volumes, drawing on the concept of "architectons" developed by Malevich. This approach results in an environment that stages a dialogue between flat surfaces and suspended volumes, enhancing the three-dimensionality of space.

Functionality and comfort

The office is organized to optimize the daily activities of the studio. Each workstation has spaces for displaying magnetic drawings and areas reserved for consulting large projects. Maxim Kashin drew inspiration from NASA's control rooms, where the linear arrangement of workstations promotes order and reduces visual distractions. The magnetic walls allow projects to be displayed without creating visual clutter.

Elements of Light and Reflections

A large suspended lightbox dominates the central space, while vertical columns of LEDs recall the historic factory fluorescent lamps. The integrated mirrors visually expand the space and create reflections that enhance the abstract geometries.
The project minimizes the use of finishing materials, enhancing the original walls and visible structures. This approach contributes to an essential and sustainable aesthetic.

Relaxation Area and Kitchen

Next to the main operational area, the relaxation area and kitchen feature a patented pattern by Kashin, inspired by suprematist motifs, with vibrant pops of color that stimulate creativity. The worktops and vertical surfaces showcase graphic details that blend functionality and aesthetic experimentation.

Tribute to the past and a look to the future

The original walls and exposed structures of the former factory are preserved to establish a connection with the building's history. The contemporary furnishings interact with the historical elements, creating a balance between the past and the present.
