Nowhere. A red thread in the white of the landscape, games of perspectives and infinity.

The artist and sculptor Gregory Orekhov has just completed his latest work titled "Nowhere" located in Malevich Park in the Moscow region. A 250-meter long red polypropylene carpet running through the landscape, crossing a snowy forest.

From Realism to Abstraction in Kazimir Malevich Park

The new installation by Orekhov, an artist specializing in outdoor projects and design, can be compared to the works of Eric Bulatov. However, it was not created on a picturesque canvas, but in Kazimir Malevich Park, adding further significance to the piece: the artist's transition to geometric abstraction, while preserving the original reality.

The historical significance of the red carpet, from ancient times to the present day

Historically, the red carpet has a ceremonial meaning: the path of the victors. Since the times of Agamemnon, the red carpet has been laid out to welcome leaders and royalty, attributing them to a divine spark. In the Soviet era, the red, a sacred color, marked the path taken by heads of state on ceremonial occasions. Today, in Los Angeles at the Oscars ceremony or at the Cannes Film Festival, the red carpet has been rolled out to be used by celebrities.

Orechov's Red Line: Reflection on Art, Power, and Nature

Walking along Orechov's red canvas, the visitor finds themselves taking on the role of a ruler, but ultimately is too captivated by the surrounding landscape. Orekhov emphasizes that the desire for fame, wealth, and power is insignificant when it comes to the grandeur of the universe and nature. However, "Nowhere" cannot be limited to a single interpretation. The artist poses the following question to the audience: where is the red line, the forbidden line that must not be crossed under any circumstances?

Redrawing boundaries and new perspectives

Every day we witness more and more violations of the border, and these violations seem to be increasingly fluid. The opportunity to interact with Orekhov's work, to literally cross the red line, allows us to look at the problem from a new angle and redraw for ourselves the boundary of what is acceptable.
