'Nuestro sueño', a dream residence where you can feel embraced by the warmth of Mexico

Elizabeth and Ray decided to buy a 300 m2 plot of land on the outskirts of the city of Oaxaca, where they would build their dream home, Nuestro sueño, the one they had been working on all their lives. They previously lived in New Mexico, a place famous for its majestic skies and extreme climate. In their new residence, the biggest challenge for the architects of Espacio 18 who were responsible for designing their new place to live, is to show the couple how it is possible to live differently, in a house of different materials and projected from the inside, a condition dictated by the area and adjacent buildings

Elizabeth and Ray are people who love to be part of the community and are easily loved by others: for this reason their house was designed to be "evolving", changing, full of life, a place of reunion, where friends and Mezcal can never be lacking: an oasis on the edge of the city.
Nuestro Sueño is a clay box that hides a concrete structure based on a 60cm module, which defines the internal layout. The heart and soul of the house are the kitchen and the central patio, just like an old colonial house in the center of Oaxaca. The folding glass windows with steel structure transform the space and disappear the boundary between inside and outside, while making the space more flexible

In the realization of Nuestro Sueño it was necessary to take into account several special needs such as having a vegetable garden and spaces dedicated to the passions of the couple: a sewing store, a carpentry, a gallery and a cinema room. The rooms of the residence were designed to be spacious and easily adaptable, so they can be modified over time. The architects of Espacio 18 talk about how the building changes with the seasons and the hours of the day, presenting a fascinating spectacle of ever-changing shapes and volumes. In the master bedroom, the idea that guides the composition is to wake up at dawn and start living its spaces following the slow passage of time in a natural way. Its rooms lead to the rooftop, from which you can enjoy the incredible Sierra Madre Sur

The vegetation and interior designs make the residence unique: colorful areas designed for the pleasure of those who stay there, because all this was created for them.
The intent of the architectural design was to create a cozy space full of life, one that shows how Mexico is capable of embracing you, a place where you can really feel you are in Oaxaca
