Onda Atlántica: a bridge that dances between sky and city

Pasarela Onda Atlántica is more than just a walkway: it is an urban sculpture that floats above the city, offering dynamic views and a seamless expansion joint design, ideal for pedestrians and cyclists. A work that brings the sea closer to the city, with lightness and innovation.

An urban sculptural work

With a total length of 283 meters, the Onda Atlántica footbridge, designed by Onda Arquitectura, stands as an elegant suspended urban sculpture above the city of Las Palmas. Designed to traverse public spaces and outdoor projects without any apparent structural effort, the footbridge consists of three dramatic spans of 63 meters each, all without intermediate supports. This configuration creates an unexpected sensation of lightness and suspension in the air. The work is not just a simple means of connection, but a sculpture that traverses urban space, adding a sense of beauty and wonder to those who walk across it and to those who observe it from afar.

Fluid and structurally advanced design

The undulating shape of the walkway, which appears to dance above the city, was dictated by the constraints of the site, where the structure adapts to the context by avoiding existing trees and enhancing its own performance. Thanks to this unique design, it was possible to create a structure without expansion joints, ensuring visual and structural continuity along its entire length. This fluid movement not only provides a distinctive visual appearance but also contributes to better structural efficiency, allowing for a lightweight yet durable form that harmoniously integrates into the urban landscape.

Innovative Profile and Reduction of Acoustic Impact

The design of the footbridge stands out for its V-shaped profile, developed to reduce the acoustic impact of the highway located below. This profile not only attenuates traffic noise but also allows for an unobstructed view of the city and enables natural light to penetrate along the entire pedestrian path. From certain angles, the footbridge appears to transform into a two-dimensional surface, creating the illusion of a wavy sheet of paper suspended in the air. This innovation makes the Onda Atlántica not only an infrastructural solution but a true example of experimental architecture, capable of combining functionality and design in an extraordinary way.

Integration and accessibility

Onda Atlántica is designed to meet the needs of pedestrians, cyclists, and people with reduced mobility, without the need for distinct elements such as stairs or elevators. Thanks to a simple and fluid infrastructure, the footbridge makes urban crossing accessible to everyone, inviting anyone to enjoy the path and the view. The structure blends with the urban fabric, representing a seamless connection that adapts to the city's life and its continuous movement. The footbridge thus becomes a metaphor for inclusivity and dialogue between the city and its citizens.

A visually dynamic experience in continuous motion

More than just a walkway, the footbridge is a moving observation platform. Those who traverse it experience an immersion into the city, thanks to the sense of continuity it creates at its ends, where it appears to extend beneath the adjacent urban squares. From every point on the bridge, visitors are surrounded by dynamically changing views of the city, which moves and evolves constantly before their eyes. This sensory experience, akin to a cinematic frame, makes the Onda Atlántica an iconic location for those seeking a new way to observe and experience urban space.
