The new arrangement of pavements in the restyling of Piazza Leon Battista Alberti aims to create a unified perception of space while preserving the ability to read the various functions and the different signs and meanings that have accumulated over time, which collectively define the precise character of the place
Restyling of Piazza Leon Battista Alberti in Mantua. A new unified perception to read the signs of time
Piazza Leon Battista Alberti in Mantua acquired its current configuration only at the beginning of the 20th century. Previously, the space was used as a courtyard or monastery cloister. The recent demolitions have defined the urban void, distorting the space and depriving it of its regular shape.

The STUDIO ASSOCIATO ARCHIPLAN, responsible for the project, is working to restore a regular shape to the square by precisely delineating its western edge through the creation of a small row of trees. The formal choices made by the designers have an almost archaeological approach and manifest the intention to maintain a balance between the signs that define the different characteristics of the places in the overall composition
The area on which the cloister once stood will still be identifiable in its geometric structure, thanks to the use of white stone slabs that define the perimeter of the porticoed cloister
