Rehabilitation of the Poste building in Grenoble. Timeless architecture

The project of rehabilitation of the Poste building with the construction of offices, 100 housing units, coworking space, rooftop garden, and sports facilities is based on the cultural requirement and the environmental position of conservation. Starting from the building, which is a heritage of the city, the new one is installed in the historical legacy to make it continue

Sustainability as reuse of existing space

During the preliminary design phase, the idea for the rehabilitation of the Poste building in Grenoble by the ECDM Architectes studio focuses on sustainability as the recovery of a piece of the city, a reference point for the inhabitants, within which to install our time by creating a filiation between the two eras. Refurbishing, reformatting, reusing, adapting the existing architecture while limiting demolitions. Therefore, affirming the concept of sustainability through timeless architecture

Cement, symbol of past optimism, now embraces nature

The architects' proposal is to reorganize the place while maintaining it, in a work of accompaniment to the new functions, sober and discreet, in contrast to the revolutionary transformation of the program. The matrix, structure, and envelope of the Post Office building is the cement that, with its gray energy, tells a past story of progress and optimism. The slender and towering forms of this architecture, initially designed as an object, become in the new project elements connected to the city and the surrounding environment, to nature

The green challenge in the rehabilitation of the Post Office building in Grenoble

The first focus of the project is to integrate it with nature, with the "green challenge" that the city of Grenoble seems to embrace. The building is "desaturated," surgically emptied in some areas to welcome portions of flora and fauna that colonize it from the ground up to its summit. As in all the most extensive urban architecture projects of the individual building, the rehabilitation of the Poste building in Grenoble, which is included in the neighborhood transformation, offers the opportunity to find new ways of thinking about the city: the words "life/urban animation," "inhabited neighborhood," "shared space" seek application in urbanity
