The reinterpretation of the past in the restyling of Lamat house

An architecture project in Wichelen transforms a classic house into a contemporary masterpiece: Lamat signs a bright and dynamic interior that interacts with the landscape, combining design, functionality, and innovation.

Restyling of a classic house

Among the architecture projects that reinterpret the past, Lamat signs a radical transformation in an independent house in the rural landscape of Wichelen. The stepped gable, previously covered due to moisture problems, has been restored and brought back to its original state by the studio Objekt Architecten, while few changes have been made to the exterior. At the back, new openings, including a double-height window, establish a visual dialogue with the garden and meadows, intentionally distancing themselves from the neoclassical style with a modern language and precise details.

The revolution of interior spaces

The most significant transformations are found inside, where the ceiling of the living area has been removed to create a double-height volume that extends up to the ridge line of the roof. A mezzanine, designed as a cast-in-place reinforced concrete disk, fits harmoniously into this space, creating a direct connection with the kitchen and living room. The attention to structural details and fixing methods adds a level of technical refinement to the project, emphasizing the integration between aesthetics and functionality.

Materials and details for a stunning interior

The kitchen and living room are separated by a large planter hosting tropical plants, visually defining the two areas of the open space. The flooring uses different materials: green Topcer tiles, which continue on the kitchen island and the planter, and parquet in the living area, creating a visual continuity between furniture and architecture. On the outside, the classic look of the house hides a bright, spacious, and surprisingly contemporary interior, a true dialogue between tradition and modernity.
