The Musée de la Civilization wanted an installation that would attract passers-by to visit their underused upper terrace while offering greater visibility from the street and welcoming visitors by providing shade. The installation was designed by Coryn Kempster and Julia Jamrozik and is shaped by the creation of a canopy of coloured lines, thousands of strands of ribbon hanging from a metal frame

Thousands of ribbons, which people usually use as barriers are used instead to draw attention and attract visitors to the Musée de la Civilization. This was the idea for the Roof Line Garden, a playful and colourful social space on the building's terrace
The installation is a fluid space that responds to its environmental conditions and changes dramatically with the intensity of light and wind. Thus, depending on the weather, the space is kinetic and very open or it is calm and enveloping. This transformation is visual but also auditory, as the sound generated by the movement of the barrier tape varies from a silent movement to a vigorous rustling
The Roof Line Garden is both graphic and playful and as a space encourages interaction without being prescriptive about its usage. While adults enjoy the comfort of the lounge furniture and the pleasure of resting, young people use the ribbon to have fun and explore
Roof Line Garden is an example of a social infrastructure that brings people together and encourages them to interact with each other. The project thus offers a means to help people escape from a state of distraction caused by the fact that we interact more with our mobile devices than with others
