Stuart Shave Gallery in London: historical recovery

The interior design of the art gallery signed by Stuart Shave takes place in a historic London building, which is being recovered by the studio giles reid architects. The Austrian painter Martha Junghwirth was the protagonist of the first exhibition of works in the gallery.

Black wooden facade for the London art gallery

The main wooden facade is reclaimed and painted black. On the ground floor, the gallery consists of a single space, illuminated from the front, with a staircase inserted at the back leading to a smaller square gallery.

Wood and enameled brick facade for an innovative restoration

Here a new wooden facade overlooks a light well below the street. The restoration process has revealed enameled brick slabs, previously hidden behind decades of paint.
All rooms are unified by minimal floor details and track lighting. The intention is to create an interior that is neither entirely modern nor traditional, but an appropriate addition to the street.

The choice of precious furnishings

The solid walnut furniture comes from the work of American woodworker George Nakashima (1905-1990). Other independent furniture pieces are by Le Corbusier, Jean Prouve, and Hilton Marlton.
