Taiyuan Botanical Garden project where the nature and the architecture interact harmoniously

The Taiyuan Botanical Garden project in China introduces a vibrant man-made landscape with an attractive topography of mountains and hills, with wild and elegant vegetation, lakes and waterfalls, trails and buildings

Thanks to Delugan Meissl Associated Architects' design, nature and architecture interact harmoniously here, and the greenery space takes a prominent role. The architectural concept is based on the existing landscape plan and balances the natural landscape, architecture, as well as technological and ecological solutions

In the Taiyuan Botanical Garden, the entrance building plays a dual role: it introduces the urban landscape into the garden and at the same time allows the natural landscape to interact with the built environment. A viewing platform overhanging above the water level leads visitors to the center of the Botanical Garden. Here you can enjoy the view from the platform or descend to the lake which flows through the entire park. The natural museum, incorporated into the entrance building, is organized along a timeline of different spatial and sensory experiences in order to reflect the museum's focus on natural history

The Greenhouse represents the centerpiece of the new Botanical Garden. It consists of three domes which reflect the Garden's silhouette and are home to plants from different climates: two of the three domes house the pavilions for tropical and desert plants and are architecturally integrated into the topography of the site; they face south to ensure maximum sun exposure; the third dome houses aquatic plants and is designed as a stand-alone piece on the lake. The choice of materials is in accordance with the subject, with the focus on using natural elements in order to create the appropriate environment

Another highlight of the Botanical Garden is the Bonsai Museum, designed as a rotating bowl integrated into the topography of the park, a welcoming arena for plants.
The restaurant-tea house was designed by the team of Delugan Meissl Associated Architects in analogy to traditional Chinese temples, evoking the ancient wooden structures in the image of the new design. Lastly, we find the Research Center which consists of several separate buildings in order to maximize the functionality of houses, laboratories, studios, offices, labs, meeting rooms, classrooms and a library
