Villa Catwolk in Minorca: the catwalk with breathtaking views of the sea and mountains

The house is located in Coves Noves, in the northeast part of the island of Minorca, in Spain, on a 2600 sqm plot. The entire urbanization is built on a slope that gives each house a breathtaking view of the sea. The particularity of the site on which this house is built is that in addition to the sea view, it also has a beautiful view of Mount Toro, the highest mountain on the island.

The client's need

The client's need was to have 5 bedrooms, a garage, and a swimming pool, all while not forgetting the strong desire to enjoy views of both the sea and mountain landscapes. In response to this requirement, Nomo Studio, specialized in residential architecture projects, decided to organize the layout starting from a platform that was quickly nicknamed "the catwalk" and that connects both views.

Outdoor Common Spaces

The house has been designed as a summer house in a place where people spend most of their time outdoors. This "platform" has therefore been conceived as an outdoor space that hosts the most important common areas (living room and dining room) and that can be protected when needed from the wind through invisible sliding windows.

Distinction between living area and sleeping area

Furthermore, this linear element in concrete creates a division between the living area and sleeping area. Around the walkway, there are a series of smaller units that house the service areas, thanks to this design approach, the house appears less massive and more integrated into the landscape.

Architectural elements that make the building light and elegant

The walkway, central element of the project, is 28m long and ends with an infinity pool overlooking the sea. The house gives a sense of great lightness and airiness thanks to the roof free from columns achieved through two 1.2m high steel beams in concrete that are supported by hidden steel brackets.
