The client needed 5 bedrooms, a garage, a swimming pool and a strong wish to enjoy both the sea and the mountain scenery. In response to this need, the designers decided to arrange the floor plan starting with a platform that was quickly dubbed "the walkway" and which will connect both views
Villa Catwalk in Menorca. A walkway stretching towards breathtaking sea and mountain views
The house is located in Coves Noves, in the north-eastern part of the island of Menorca, Spain, on a plot of 2600 square metres. The entire complex is built on a slope that gives each house a breathtaking view of the sea, the peculiarity of the site on which this house stands is that in addition to the sea view it also has a beautiful view of Monte Toro, the highest mountain on the island
The house was designed as a summer house in a place where people spend most of their time outdoors. This "platform" was therefore conceived as an outdoor space which houses the most important common areas (living and dining room) and which can be protected when necessary from the wind by invisible sliding windows
In addition, this linear concrete element creates a division between the living and sleeping areas and around the walkway we can find a series of smaller units housing the service areas. This design method makes the house seem less massive and more integrated into the landscape
The walkway, the central element of the project is 28 m long and ends with an infinity pool facing the sea. The house conveys an idea of extreme airy lightness thanks to the column-free roof created by two 1.2 m high concrete beams supported on hidden steel brackets
