Casa Diáñez, a prototype 17th century stately home, has been renovated by reina & asociados architectural studios to become a centre for historical and ethnographic interpretation of the Spanish city of Alcalá de los Gazules, in Andalusia
The patio becomes the backbone of the house: the processing of wooden lattices combined with wooden elements blurs the relationship between void, rooms and circulation spaces. The boundaries are minimised, and the house is made increasingly lighter the higher you go
Permeability, glazing, transparency and reflections give the building an institutional and public character, distancing the house from its original domestic image. From the roof of the building you can enjoy the panorama of Alcalá and all its historical urban elements
