With extreme sensitivity, the architects of Miralles Tagliabue EMBT designed this small medical centre conceived as a garden pavilion surrounded by colourful flowers, where the boundaries between inside and outside blur and vary. The Centro Kálida plot is located between the new hospital and the original Art Nouveau buildings
Innovative spaces of special beauty, where flowers and the harmony of place help heal the soul
The Kálida Centre is a medical centre, a space of emotional, social and practical support for cancer patients and the people around them, a home open to all, where they can meet people, find refuge and where qualified professionals offer their help

The building offers privacy, light, shelter and protection around the garden. The core is organized on two floors of approximately 200 square meters: the ground floor is located at a lower level than the surrounding complex and is conceived as a sequence of flexible spaces, open to the outside, protected by walls, pergolas and vegetation that can accommodate a variety of activities
The south-facing façades are more transparent but protected by wooden shutters to ensure privacy, while the opaque façades are brick walls with glazed ceramic inserts, combined in a variable composition of colors and textures
The wall becomes a ceramic lattice to filter the Mediterranean sunlight, focus the view of the environment, promote air circulation and protect the privacy of the interior spaces. The entire project was inspired by the richness of materials, textures, colors, geometries, patterns and greenery of the original hospital complex
