The 19th International Architecture Exhibition of the Venice Biennale: Intelligens. Natural. Artificial. Collective.

< p>From May 10 to November 23, 2025, the Architecture Biennale explores the future of adaptation, involving different forms of intelligence to rethink our built environment and redefine the role of architecture in a changing world.

Architecture in the Age of Adaptation

The 19th International Architecture Exhibition of the Venice Biennale, curated by Carlo Ratti, places at the center of the debate the urgency of adapting to climate change. Building upon the historical role of architecture as a response to environmental conditions, the 2025 edition expands the perspective with a multidisciplinary approach. The chosen title, Intelligens. Natural. Artificial. Collective., highlights the need for an integration of natural, artificial, and collective intelligence to address the challenges of the future.

An inclusive and interdisciplinary setting

For the first time, the exhibition hosts over 750 participants from different sectors: architects, engineers, climate scientists, philosophers, artists, and programmers collaborate in a dynamic idea laboratory. The open and bottom-up selection process has allowed both established professionals and emerging voices to be included, creating a unique generational and cultural dialogue. Among the participants are Pritzker Prize winners, former Biennale Curators, and Nobel laureates, alongside young researchers and designers.

The Ropewalks and the exhibition path

The heart of the exhibition unfolds in the Ropewalks of the Arsenal, articulating itself in three thematic sections: "Natural Intelligence, Artificial Intelligence" and "Collective Intelligence". The path culminates in the section "Out", which raises questions about the role of space in resolving terrestrial crises. The exhibition project, curated by the Sub studio of Niklas Bildstein Zaar, and the graphics by Bänziger Hug Kasper Florio reflect the concept of interconnectedness and collaboration, enriched by interactive digital experiences.

Venice as a living laboratory

With the Central Pavilion undergoing renovation, the entire city of Venice is being transformed into an experimental laboratory. In addition to the traditional exhibition spaces of the Gardens and the Arsenal, installations and prototypes will be scattered throughout different neighborhoods, making the exhibition a widespread experience. Among the 66 national participations, new additions from Azerbaijan, Oman, Qatar, and Togo stand out. The Italian Pavilion, curated by Guendalina Salimei, explores the relationship between the sea and intelligence with the project "TERRÆ AQUÆ".
