Design and light for an interior that interacts with the urban landscape

This intervention tells the story of a renovation that was able to turn constraints into strengths: through smart solutions, the targeted use of materials, and attention to natural light. The apartment opens up to the park and elegantly adapts to urban life. A valuable reference for those seeking inspiration in the field of residential restyling.

A project guided by light and urban context

In a building from the 1980s overlooking the first section of the Bosque de Chapultepec, in the heart of Mexico City, a 300 m² apartment has been completely transformed through a house renovation to maximize natural light and privileged views of the park. The intervention stems from a deep understanding of the context and the client's needs, aiming to create fluid, open, and functional spaces that can adapt to social moments as well as private life.

An open space that reflects nature

To expand and lighten the main living room, the living area has seen the merging of the library and the lounge. The separation with the vestibule was resolved through a custom-made piece of furniture that filters the light and creates a visual threshold without interrupting the spatial continuity. The existing columns were covered with mirrors, an aesthetic and functional choice that multiplies the perception of space and reflects the large windows overlooking the greenery. The management of the not-so-generous height suggested a wise use of indirect light, directed upwards to amplify the opening effect.

Disappearing Solutions and Noble Materials

The project by the López-Duplan Arquitectos studio pays great attention to formal cleanliness: sliding doors allow dynamic flexibility between public and private spaces, while containment systems are integrated into the wainscoting, making the surfaces homogeneous. The kitchen has been repositioned to achieve a more functional connection with other spaces, favoring a practical and contemporary use of the space. The result is a measured balance between aesthetics and functionality, where each element is custom calibrated.

Private Comfort and Tailored Details

All bedrooms are spacious, equipped with private bathrooms and walk-in closets, while the TV room can be converted into a fourth bedroom if needed. The bathrooms are clad in large-format marble, providing elegance and material continuity. Throughout the rest of the house, oak and walnut essences dominate, adding warmth and sophistication to the spaces. Every detail – from materials to finishes – has been designed to meet a concept of contemporary, fluid comfort that places the relationship between interior and landscape at the center.
