The innovative project by architect Ilaria Nava stems from the desire to design a place of relaxation and in contact with nature, in the wooded context of the Groane Regional Park, north of Milan, with high natural, vegetational, and faunal value.

Architecture and nature

The new building is located on a plot of over 6000 square meters, surrounded by a beautiful forest, replacing a previously demolished building. The architecture, of high iconic value, is designed by Ilaria Nava Studio. It is situated in a landscape-protected area, an important example of integration between natural space and inhabited space.

The embracing shape of the building

The architect, specialized in architecture projects linked to the natural context, designs the building's volume starting from unexpected diagonals. This creates a concave space exposed to the south at the center of the building. Symbolically, the forest infiltrates the built environment, while the built environment becomes an embracing shape that protects nature.

Relationship between man, architecture, and nature

Wide perspectives that lead the visitor's eye to relate to nature and perceive the deep involvement of the building are created by folds and deformations. In the outdoor spaces, the relationship between man and nature is enhanced by the projecting wooden eaves.

Wood as an iconic element

Wood is widely used in the courtyard, clad in red cedar wood trim and Ipà wood flooring. The main facade is created by a series of vertical panels made of laminated larch wood, which not only protect the interiors from direct sunlight during sunset but also serve as an acoustic and visual barrier from the street.

The restaurant structure

The restaurant is divided into two main blocks: the restaurant-bar, a large open-space divided into three sections to manage the three areas according to the expected service, and a service block. Thanks to the pitched roof, a combination of dihedrals with a span of over 20 meters, the interior spaces can be used as a single large space and it is possible to design a long glass facade facing the courtyard.
